- Job Title: Restorative Justice Coordinator
- Location: Ladysmith Resource Community Association (LRCA)
- Job Type: Part-time Permanent 12 hours per week
Job Summary:
The Restorative Justice Coordinator (RJC) will implement the Restorative Justice Program at the LRCA. The RJC plans, organizes, and coordinates the services of the program, including oversight of the volunteer activities. This role involves coordinating restorative practices, facilitating communication between RCMP, Crown Counsel, and Community Stakeholders. The RJC will collaborate closely with stakeholders, community members, and individuals impacted by crime and other harms to promote healing, accountability, and community restoration. The RJC reports to the LRCA Programs Manager and informs management about work performance, progress, and difficulties.
Accountabilities:
- Aid with the development, evaluation and implementation of restorative justice programs tailored to the needs of the community and the LRCA.
- Offer input for program structures, guidelines, and protocols for restorative processes in collaboration with LRCA management team and stake holders.
- Facilitate restorative justice conferences, circles, and meetings involving the responsible person, the affected person, and community members.
- Mediate discussions to address the impact of crime, facilitate dialogue, and foster understanding and accountability.
- Provide support and guidance to participants throughout the restorative process.
- Manage caseloads of restorative justice cases, ensuring timely and thorough processing and follow up.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and confidentiality of case information in compliance with LRCA policies.
- Engage with community members, organizations, and leaders to raise awareness of restorative justice principles and programs.
- Deliver community education on restorative justice through public talks and presentations when required.
- Foster partnerships and collaborations to enhance community involvement in restorative justice initiatives.
- Interview, onboard, supervise, train, and monitor restorative justice volunteer facilitators.
- Supporting practicum students in collaboration with local universities and LRCA practices.
- Keep accurate records and statistics to enable monthly or annual reports.
- Support and monitor individuals going through Restorative Justice diversions to insure completion of diversion.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in criminology, criminal justice, social work, psychology, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience working in the field of restorative justice or related areas such as conflict resolution, mediation, victim support or advocacy.
- Or a combination of equivalent training, skills, and experience.
- Works well in a team and is also able to work reliably as an independent worker.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills are essential for effectively facilitating dialogues between affected parties, conducting group meetings, and explaining restorative justice processes to participants.
- Ability to manage and de-escalate conflicts effectively. This includes identifying underlying issues, fostering dialogue, and finding mutually acceptable solutions.
- Strong organizational skills, coordinating services, managing schedules, arranging meetings, and coordinating logistics, are all necessary to ensure that processes run smoothly and efficiently.
- Awareness of cultural differences and diverse backgrounds is essential for working with a wide range of individuals and communities who access restorative justice.
- Proficiency in mediation and facilitation techniques, skilled at guiding dialogue and ensuring that all participants have an opportunity to express themselves respectfully.
- Able to work outside of office hours as needed and some travel is required.

- RJC can encounter challenging and emotionally taxing situations. The ability to cope with stress, bounce back from setbacks, and maintain a positive outlook is important.
- Having a strong sense of ethics and integrity is crucial for upholding the principles of restorative justice, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring fair and equitable processes for all involved parties.
- The ability to gather and analyze information, assess the needs and strengths of participants, and identify appropriate interventions or resources is important for designing and implementing effective restorative justice plans.
- Able to manage time effectively, must be patient, kind and empathetic.
Additional Requirements:
- Criminal Record
- Must have a valid unrestricted Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License
- A clean driver’s abstract (annually)
Shift/Schedule/Hours per week: 12 hours per week – with the option to increase as per program needs and enhanced funding.
Expected Start Date: ASAP.
Wage/Salary: starting at $25 hourly.
