Shelter

The LRCA believes that all people, at all times, have a fundamental right to safe shelter and secure, affordable housing.

One of the biggest problems that members of our community who are without a home face is staying connected. Without an address, and little income, it can be challenging to receive mail or have a cell phone. As a result, keeping in touch with friends and family can be difficult.

Sleeping rough

One night, a young man arrived at our shelter. He said he was looking for his father, who he thought might be in a shelter. In fact, his father was here and had been sitting near the door within earshot. Upon recognizing his son’s voice, the father got up and went to give him a big hug.

Seeing these two find each other after being apart for so long was truly a privilege for the staff on shift that night.

About Us

It all began early in 1992 at a meeting of the Ladysmith Inter-Agency Liaison Committee, a group of representatives from the government-mandated agencies formed in the early 1970s to maximize cooperation among the agencies while minimizing the duplication of services.

In 1992, this group pooled some of their own money and decided to form a non-profit association to try to deal with these recurring situations. This became the foundation of the Ladysmith Resources Centre Association.
