The LRCA believes that all people, at all times, have a fundamental right to safe shelter and secure, affordable housing.
One of the biggest problems that members of our community who are without a home face is staying connected. Without an address, and little income, it can be challenging to receive mail or have a cell phone. As a result, keeping in touch with friends and family can be difficult. One night, a young man arrived at our shelter. He said he was looking for his father, who he thought might be in a shelter. In fact, his father was here and had been sitting near the door within earshot. Upon recognizing his son’s voice, the father got up and went to give him a big hug. Seeing these two find each other after being apart for so long was truly a privilege for the staff on shift that night.
