Welcome our new Executive Director
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Ladysmith Resources Centre Association (LRCA) I would like to introduce you to our new Executive Director Karen Laing who will officially start her position on March 1, 2021.
Karen brings with her a wealth of nonprofit experience. She comes to LRCA from Mission Community Services Society where she served as the Director/Manager of Governance and Resource Development for the past 10 years. Prior to her employment at MCSS she served as Chair on their Board of Directors.
At MCSS she managed day-to-day operational activities in several key areas, monitoring revenues and expenditures to ensure sound financial control and efficient use of budgeted funds, materials, facilities, and time. She assisted the development and implementation of the society’s strategic plans and policies and was responsible for resource development, proposal writing and grant applications.
Karen’s prior work experience included Public Relations Coordinator for North Fraser Community Development Corporation and as a journalist/editor for both print and television.
Karen earned the designation ICD.D (Institute of Corporate Directors) from the Rotman School of Business in 2010.
She developed a keen sense of community during her forty plus years living in Mission. In addition to serving on several community agency boards, Karen was elected to the school board, to city council and served on Prospera Credit Union Board of Directors for more than two decades. Karen was awarded the Canada 125 Medal for community service in 1992.
Karen, her husband John and their furry first mate Ali’i moved to Ladysmith two years ago attracted by the charm of this seaside community and the opportunity to moor their sailboat only minutes from their doorstep.
We passionately believe that Karen will be a great addition to the LRCA. Please help us welcome her to our association.
