Storybook Walk at Brown Drive Park

Storybook Walk

In February of 2021, thanks to the generous support from the Rotary Club of Ladysmith, Ladysmith and District Credit Union and the Town of Ladysmith, Adventures in Early Literacy was able to create a permanent, interactive Storybook Walk at Brown Drive Park.

It has since become a treasured destination for many families, schools and various organizations looking to get outside and read a book at the same time. The Storybook Walk consists of a children’s book spread out along 21 all-weather signs which gently guides the reader through a forest and field next to the playground. Each sign gives readers an opportunity to answer engaging questions and partake in fun, physical literacy prompts.

This free, self-guided experience runs year-round in rain, snow or shine with the books being swapped out on a regular basis.

Throughout the year, worthwhile special events are held at the park where a variety of community organizations come together to celebrate literacy.

Holiday Storybook Walk

Every December, First Avenue in downtown Ladysmith is transformed into an exciting holiday wonderland, made even more magical with the addition of the Holiday Storybook Walk. Thanks to a partnership with the Festival of Lights, art students from Ladysmith High School, and local volunteers, this festive stroll is an absolute must-see!

  • Approximately 20 illuminated, hand-painted, life-sized Christmas characters hold the pages of stories for all to enjoy.
  • This free, self-guided experience is available day or night and has evolved into a treasured holiday tradition, drawing visitors from near and far.

Since its inception in 2021, Adventures in Early Literacy has welcomed hundreds of school-aged children, preschools, and daycares to warm up with a cup of hot chocolate and a cookie after exploring the Holiday Storybook Walk.

Pop-Up Storybook Walk

Pop-Up Storybook WalkThroughout the year, Adventures in Early Literacy teams up with organizations around town to create Pop-up Storybook Walks. The Pop-up Storybook Walks appeared at the Ladysmith Museum, the marina, Transfer Beach and Arts on the Avenue If you would like to have a Pop-Up Storybook Walk come to your school, daycare, organization or event, please see the contact details below.
