The Ladysmith Resource Centre Association is pleased to receive 2,000.00 from the First West Foundation through the Island Savings Community Endowment towards Food Skills for Families Program.
This grant will allow us to launch the Food Skills for Families program by covering the wages of the facilitator, as well as assisting with advertising the program to our community.
The Food Skills for Family (FSF) program is a capacity building weekly program consisting of six sessions that teaches healthy eating, shopping and cooking skills to at risk populations. We have chosen to offer the Healthy Cooking on A Budget curriculum, designed to meet the unique needs of low-income families. It involves nutritional and budgetary learning as well as hands-on food preparation in each 3-hour session
Through Food Skills for Families program, participants struggling with food insecurity gain the knowledge they need to make healthy and affordable food choices. They also gain permanent skills and confidence to cook and prepare nutritious and appetizing meals, keep food safe, plan meals, shop and modify recipes for their personal health and budgets.
