Saltair Quilters show generosity to Heart on the Hill tenants: A unique quilt for each suite

Donna (centre in photo above), project coordinator for the “Quilts for Heart on the Hill’ project, arrived at the LRCA’s 36-unit affordable housing project recently with a load of quilts created by Saltair Quilters and Crafters Group with The Cowichan District Heritage Quilters Guild and two quilters from Kamloops.

This one-time community project provides a comfort quilt to first-time tenants of Heart on the Hill. Donna attended the building’s opening celebration in March and was impressed as she toured the facility. Accepting the quilts were Laurie (left) and Lana (right) who are engaged with the Heart on the Hill building through the LRCA.

The quilting project was launched in May, and a motto for the group is “Make a difference in the world with your passions.”
Saltair Quilters and Crafters Group is a small group which meets every Tuesday at the Saltair Community Centre from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Tenants reacted to the generosity, saying the gesture made them feel special as tenants at Heart on the Hill.   "Thank you!"

In addition to working on personal projects, the group created a commemorative quilt for Canada’s 150 anniversary, provided handmade quilts and blankets to Crossroads Pregnancy Centre in Nanaimo, Covenant House in Vancouver and is recycling fibre scraps to make into dog beds for the local SPCA.
